The beauty dish reflector is a legendary light shaping tool popularized by fashion and portrait photographers. This Impact 22″ Beauty Dish Reflector lives up to its potential by offering a bridge between softboxes and umbrellas that yields a soft but crisp light with snappy contrast and a textural quality that flatters makeup on models and accentuates character in portrait subjects. The secret is a built-in deflector that bounces the flash’s direct output backwards, filling the shallow dish and casting a wide beam of soft light forward. The Beauty Dish fits most major brands with the separate purchase of an adapter.

The Beauty Dish can also be used in combination with a diffuser sock or honeycomb grid, which allows for further modification of the light output.

The perfect accessory for the portrait photographer, the Fotodiox beauty dish uniquely diffuses light to provide high output with moderate feathering. Unlike a softbox or a reflector which has an “illuminating” surface, the beauty dish has a circle of light with an opaque center and an internal light shield that allows bounce-only lighting. How does the beauty dish compare to a softbox? As the beauty dish is smaller, it will result in less-soft shadows. It will also provide moderate round catch lights in the eyes, where a softbox will yield larger rectangular catch lights. Fotodiox beauty dishes use a parabolic reflector in 80° angle to focus light towards a wrapped area.

The Fotodiox beauty dish also come with a diffusion ‘sock’ for further controlling the sharpness of shadows. You can use soft diffuser cover and honeycomb grid to further change the light pattern, creating a wrapped, contrasted look, which adds a very dramatic effect. The optional 50° Honeycomb Grid contains the light to a more tubular pattern, for more of a spot light effect without light spill. (sold separately)

    • Only 7mm thickness, Wide-angle lens compatible ultra thin frame
    • With Zomei Variable Density Neutral Gray filters, users can select the intensity from ND2 (1 f-stop) to ND400 (8+ f-stops) by rotating the front ring
    • Glass mounted with high pressure press technology
    • Original AGC Optical Glass from Japan
    • All Materials Used in this filter Meet the Requirements of European Union’s standards of Environment Protection-ROHS(Restrictions on Hazardous Substances)

By rotating the end of the lens you are able to control the amount of light (between +1 and +8 stop values) that enters the lens. Foe example, f/4 instead of f/8 for selective sharpness instead of great depth of field, or 1/15s instead of 1/60s for a smooth, blurred water effect instead of a ‘frozen’ waterfall.

    Color Shift?

The color of the image may vary between warm and cold. This is a common phenomenon of all variable ND filters. You need to as just your white balance accordingly when set the ND filter to different ranges.

The B+W 67mm XS-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC-Nano Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Kaesemann High Transmission Circular (HTC) polarizing filters are fitted with polarizing foils which provide 99.5% light transmission that are cemented between plano-parallel optical glass. The resulting sandwich is then precision-polished to achieve accurate plano-parallel surfaces. Finally, they are edge-sealed to protect the foil against humidity.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes multiple layers of anti-reflection coating. This Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) also offers further protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The Nano coating associated with XS-Pro filters provides an additional eighth layer over the MRC, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

B+W filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter features a thin brass filter ring to minimize the potential for vignetting while enhancing durability and jamming prevention. To further reduce the possibility of vignetting when this filter is in use, the filter ring’s outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size. This may prevent the use of some lens manufacturer bayonet hoods.
